25 (Nearly) Free Summer Activities
Anyone else's kids fight like crazy during the summer? My kids aren't used to so much time together and end up fighting nonstop. So we've had to get creative with getting out of the house without spending a lot of money. Here are a few of our go-to activities.
1. Go to a local park - If you have been to all the parks in your hometown, be willing to drive about 30 minutes to a nearby town for a new park. Even if the playground equipment is the same, its a new place and the kids will enjoy it.

2. Make bubbles - We tend to run out of bubbles fast so I had to improvise. 10 cups water, 3.5 cups blue Dawn dish soap, and 1 cup corn syrup. There are other recipes out there, but this one worked for us.
3. Volunteer at a local animal shelter
4. Organize a community clean up
5. Check local events - Summer time means local groups will be hosting free or cheap events. Our library does a reading in the park with free lunches!
6. Book projects - their teachers will thank you come August for not letting the kids back slide on reading.
7. Painting in the park - We like to go to the riverfront at sunset to try and capture the beauty.
8. Upcycle winter clothes - Kids outgrew some winter items? Try to make something new out of them!
9. Make popsicles
10. Go for a picnic
11. Camp in the back yard
12. Star gazing
13. Bake cookies for a neighbor or nursing home
14. Make your own pizzas
15. Kitchen science experiments - make gak, play-dough, or volcanoes
16. Make your own paper for card making
17. Bonfire with s'mores
18. Letter boxing or geocaching - if you have never heard of these, they are scavenger hunts that are free and can lead you to areas of your town that you have never been
19. Leaf rubbings
20. Flash light tag
21. Nature scavenger hunt
22. Make a pin cone bird feeder
23. Host a yard sale - its a bit of work, but it does bring in a bit of money and declutter the house
24. Kids karaoke night - Let the kids control the music for a night
25. Go strawberry picking - There are local farm markets that have kids areas where they can pick their own strawberries.
